Virginio was born in Caserta and started very young his career as basketball coach. After coach for a few years in Campania, he moved to Desio where he led the team from third to first division in just four years.
After that, his long career took him to many places: Brescia, Forlì, Varese, Reggio Emilia, Trieste, Caserta, Cantù, Fabriano, Lugano, Rieti, Scafati, Montegranaro. During these years, he won the “1993 coach of the year” award, three times the Serie A2 championship and reached one Italian Cup final.
In 2001 he decided to move on, so he started his new career as basketball agent working for Luciano Capicchioni and Interpeformances, becoming the first Italian agent to take care of coaches. In 2006 he founded the Double B Management with Luigi Bergamaschi before splitting up and founding in 2012 the SPORT lab. Agency.
Nowadays his agency is a landmark in the Italian basketball market and since 2013 he’s also the president of the Italian Basketball Agents Association.
Born and raised in Milano, he starts his professional career in 1982 with EDB where he works as Director of Production and responsible for the products’ International distribution; he’s also a commentator for NBA games and other American sports besides directing the NBA summer Camps for kids.
In 1990 he lands at Tele+ as the sports programs coordinator before becoming the channel director.
In 1999 he is named Director General of the Italian Basketball League, although he occupies the post just for one year before being called from the newly born Euroleague Basketball as the Marketing & Media responsible and then as Director of Television. Under his leadership, the TV coverage of Euroleague Basketball is raised from 21 countries and 27 channels to 202 countries and 61 channels and he also orchestrates the creation of Euroleague TV.
He is currently the EuroCup Media Manager.
Milanese, giornalista, nel 1977, alla nascita delle televisioni private, diventa uno dei primi commentatori di basket in Italia per Antenna Nord e, poi, Telenova.
Nel 1978, il grande Aldo Giordani lo recluta per il suo nuovo settimanale Superbasket, rivista entrata nel mito per gli appassionati del gioco.
Nel 1987 passa alla Gazzetta dello Sport per la quale, per quasi 25 anni, ricopre il ruolo di responsabile della rubrica e prima firma della pallacanestro. Nel 1991 partecipa all’apertura della redazione americana a New York. Con la Gazzetta ha coperto sei Olimpiadi, occupandosi non solo di basket, e tutti i grandi avvenimenti cestistici per club e squadre nazionali, finali Nba, All Star game, Final Four facendo diventare la pallacanestro americana un punto fondamentale della rubrica.
E’ tornato alla televisione con Gazzetta Tv.
